Negotiate with a smile!

Negotiating with a smile will get you a better deal on your next car purchase. It doesn’t mean you can’t be a “ball buster” just do it with a smile. When I say smile I mean having fun with the sales person. Get buddy buddy with him/her and they will most certainly work harder to get you the deal you are looking for.

Having an attitude with the sales person usually messes up the whole thing. Not only do you make the noobie sales person nervous or the veteran mad, you create an entire negative environment that no one including yourself really want to be in.

As a manager for years, I can promise that the customers that negotiated with a smile got a lot more from me before, during and after the sale. You really don’t want the sales person and the manager running when they see you coming in to have some service or problems resolved.

If you create a good relationship with your sales person/dealer it will make your car life much easier. When my favorite customers called me with problems, you can bet I jumped right on it. It was actually a pleasure most of the time to help them solve their issues. When the other customers called me with problems, I was less enthusiastic about helping. I certainly didn’t go the extra mile.

Purchasing and owning a car should be fun. If you can’t find a sales person/dealer tht will help you negotiate with a smile, find one that will. You will be glad you did.

In the March edition of Automtive News an article written by Robert Sherefkin highlights a bright spot in the dim automotive sector. Many new car dealers in the Great Plains are booming and say they are better off than they were 3 years ago when all the other new car dealers were on fire setting record months. The reason? 2 factors. (1) Farmers are getting top dollars for their crops. Commodity prices hit record highs last year and although they backed off a bit they are still above the norm. (2) Unemployment was below 4%.

New car dealers in these areas especially farm communities are fairing better than the rest of the country. Althought the market on new cars is still in the dumps for the rest of the country, used car sales are setting records. The deals are great on both new and used cars. If you have the means, get out there and start spending. Help yourself and the economy at the same time.

WOW! They really did it. India has built the world’s cheapest car. They call it the Tata. Will it sell? I guess so. There are already 1 million applications and only 60,000 being built.

Not sure what to do. Let’s look at the various factors involved.
